Your body is a miracle, designed to work perfectly, if you allow it. We are given this wonderful gift of a body to live in for this lifetime but, contrary to appearances, we don’t actually do the living of our body, rather our bodies are lived for us.
Think about it! Do you beat your heart, breathe your lungs, operate your digestive and immune systems, oversee your day to day cellular function? We don’t and most of the time we don’t even notice that these functions are occurring. All these bodily functions are taken care of for us, we don’t have to do a thing. The only thing that we have to do is to inhabit this body and take care of it.
All this work of living our body is done for us by something that is far greater than us and how amazing is that!
And what is this greater thing? Call it God if you choose. I do.
This world we live in
We live in a world full of noise, stress, pressure, disturbance and, a lot of the time, chaos. We are constantly distracted by what is happening outside of us and rarely have time to focus on what is happening inside us. We are disconnected from ourselves, and we can feel this disconnection even if we don’t know exactly what we are feeling. We can experience these disconnection feelings as a general feeling of not being at peace, of needing something more in our life or a sense that something is missing from our life. We feel unfulfilled.

If we are lucky, at some point in our lives, we may experience something that makes us stop for a few moments. We may experience something that takes our mind away from the outside world, bringing our attention sharply back to ourselves.
This may be a sudden illness, the death of a loved one or some other life crisis. And, for a short time, we see a different reality, where the happenings outside us lose their importance. We catch a glimpse of a reality beyond what we usually see, a reality that lies behind, underneath, above our previous reality.
These are the moments that have the potential to change our lives forever, and if we are aware enough to take advantage of the opportunity, we can change our life for the better.
If we can stop, be still, pull our mind from ‘outside’ and listen inside, we may hear that small internal whisper that guides our lives. For some this whisper may be an actual auditory experience, for others it may be a feeling (gut feeling), or a ‘pull’ towards something as yet unknown. For me it was a feeling/desire for something that I couldn’t describe, a deep longing for something more.
The Soul Purpose
Our soul has a purpose, even though most of us don’t realise it. There is a purpose to our existence. It may not be a great or glorious purpose, it is usually a small and private purpose to do good, to be kind, to live honestly, to do our small part in making this world a better place.
And this small part we play, it is a part that no else can fulfill. It is only us who can achieve this particular purpose and it is our purpose alone to fulfill.
This purpose, often call the soul journey or spiritual path, brings us into alignment with ourselves.
The further away from our soul purpose that we are, the more out of alignment with ourselves we become. When we are out of alignment with ourselves we may feel a lack of purpose, or strong feelings of unease, dis-ease, disease.
Deep Healing
If we can allow ourselves to slow down, to stop, listen, feel, than we can start to ‘sense’ ourselves and start being guided back into alignment with ourselves. Alignment is where we find our ‘self’, where our inner conflict starts to ease, where we can stop being at war with ourselves, where we are most at home with ourselves. The more into alignment we become, the more at peace we feel and the deeper we can heal.
It is possible to live in this world, to enjoy this world and still be in alignment with ourselves. All we need to realise is that the outside world is the distraction and that our real world lies within us.
